Boss Lady is a series that shares personal insights from creative women in business. This week we chat with Laini Bianculli, a style and beauty expert, writer, makeup artist, and creator of Style With Laini. She shares with us her passion for helping women find confidence and how she overcame obstacles to build a career in the industry she loves.
1. Tell us a little about yourself and your career.
As a very young girl, I recognized my burning desire for fashion, beauty and writing. I was born with it; it is in my DNA. I am certain that my blood type is infused with structured handbags, platform peep toe pumps, lipstick and lots of creativity.
My dream was to be a runway model. Every Saturday morning, I would anxiously wait to watch my favorite television show, Style with Elsa Klensch. I was captured by the beautiful clothes and models that so effortlessly walked the runway as well as Elsa Klensch’s individual style and expertise as a writer, producer and host.
Throughout my journey in the corporate world I recognized my entrepreneurial spirit and the calling to assist women on what I describe as “the red carpet of life.”
2. Describe your typical workday.
No two days are exactly the same as the creative process takes on a life of its own. Some days are set aside for marketing, writing, continuing education and curating my cosmetic collection while others are working with a client for wardrobe styling, personal shopping, applying makeup or creating custom bespoke makeup. Saturdays are busy with wedding and formal makeup depending upon the season.
3. What inspires your passion for helping women achieve style success?
I believe it is in my Style DNA or what I identify as the “dynamics of natural attributes” to assist women in refining their style and defining their beauty. It makes me happy to know my clients are confident, smiling and owning their brand.
4. What prompted you to start Style with Laini?
Style with Laini was built on my inherent passion for creative writing and my desire to inspire women to want to get up, get dressed, tackle their day and look good doing it. It has advanced as I have evolved with encouraging my clients through my menu of services whether style, beauty or both.
5. Have you encountered any obstacles in your career and how did you overcome them?
Yes! Obstacles are put in front of you so that you can learn how to hurdle over, around, and under them. You must develop a grit and growth mindset and keep moving. You must never give up and always believe in yourself.
6. Where do you turn for style inspiration?
Style is organic and inspiration can be found everywhere. I adore color, texture, art, music and turning the pages of my favorite fashion/beauty magazines to discover new influences and seasonal interpretations.
7. What is your most successful form of marketing?
I believe networking is vital to your marketing campaign. You must be visible and develop strong personal relationships to remain viable, current and generate new business.
8. What unexpected trends do you see rising for spring?
What’s old is new again. Vintage inspired fashion and very matte makeup.
9. Who is a Boss Lady that you admire and why?
There isn’t one specific woman; however, I respect the myriad female designers in the fashion and beauty industry who are able to translate their unique vision to their brand and boldly own it.
10. Do you have advice for other women hoping to become entrepreneurs?
Own your vision, focus and set your intentions. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who support you. Your vision will only be evident to you. Don’t explain it and never look to anyone else for approval. As long as you are courageous and confident you will succeed.
