Fashion Sense: NYFW Recap

Stunning, brilliant and magical. Three words to describe New York Fashion Week 2017. Featured designers put blood, sweat and tears (maybe literally) into their productions and they could not have been more extravagent. From the launch of Gemy Maalouf’s collection to Vivienne Tam, Vivienne Hu, Leanne Marshall & Nicole Miller, we witnessed true talent first hand and learned of trends arriving in Fall 2017. We have to admit, we can NOT wait!

Vivienne Hu
This collection captured more of the “Nonchalant Tomboy” trend vibing throughout fashion week. Our favorite looks include a clean, minimalist line and we sure can’t forget about the layers! Lots and lots of layers; pure brilliance.

Nicole Miller
The designer channeled her inner NYC grunge for this collection and we loved it! Skulls, leather and chains were frequently seen on the runway with dark eye makeup and a bright red lip. Again, we can’t forget about those layering pieces!

Vivienne Tam
While Nicole Miller channeled her inner NYC grunge, Vivienne went with a Hong Kong nightlife scene for her inspiration. The vibe of the show was everything, upbeat and fierce with a feministic touch. From bold patterns to bombers and sequence, the collection captured every bit of the urban culture. Check out those prints!

Gemy Maalouf
This collection screams romance! Gemy mastered the evening gown aesthetic for her fashion week launch party. Structured tailored peices, lace detail and ruffles made up this perfectly elegant group. Did we mention it was at the Bowery Hotel?

Leanne Marshall
Leanne Marshall gave her collection the feminist touch with monochromatic looks, varying necklines, soft silk and textured lace. The models sported neutral makeup, updos, red lips and a gorgeous statemenet earring.

In a New York (Fashion Week) State Of Mind

Twice a year, New York City hosts fashion week where international brands showcase their designs for the seasons ahead. In addition to this crazy week you’ll find interesting street style, innovative beauty and cool collaborations. Last week, some of our team members ventured to a few shows and were left inspired, dazzled and tired. Here’s what we saw:

Alice + Olivia: we fell in love with the late 1960s/early 1970s vibe. There was a bit of boho meets rock-n-roll with a touch of femininity, all of which left us wanting more.

Katie Ermilio: one of our new favorite designers offered another beautiful show. Minimalism was the theme as fabrics and silhouettes took center stage. We absolutely loved these two red modern pieces.

Desigual: it was very exciting to see a collection designed in part by Christian Lacroix. The colors were bright, the prints were mixed and the textures were vast.

Dee Ocleppo: held in a suite at the Plaza and featuring a Grace Kelly portrait and an Eloise doll, this presentation was a New York moment. The line showcased satchels, totes, and clutches with an array of embellishment, most notably exquisite gems and detailed embroidery.

Veronica Beard: a mixture of prep and downtown cool. We fell in love with the maroon tights paired with plaid as well as the idea of mixing stripes with camo.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York starts tomorrow and we cannot wait; it’s the unofficial start to fall. We’re looking forward to seeing what Rebecca Minkoff, Nicole Miller, Reem Acra and J.Crew have designed. The makeup and nail art are always interesting and inspiring. In February, we loved Dolce & Gabbana’s cat-eye and Honor’s red and pink “peek-a-boo crescents” created by Deborah Lippmann.
