Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m an interior designer and blogger behind My Paradissi. I live in Crete, Greece, where I also come from. I started my blog 4 years ago as an online place to keep me in a constant motivation of being inspired and creative. Along with the blog, I work on interior design and decorating projects for local clients as well as international ones. In my free time, I love to get in a car and explore the beauties of the island, have fun in local open air festivals with traditional music and local delicacies and wine or just hang out at home with friends (that goes mostly for winter ha).
How did you begin your journey in architecture and interior design?
I have always been fascinated by visual arts and wanted to become either a graphic designer or an interior designer when I grew up. I finally chose to study architecture as the mother of all design arts and was happy to do so. At university, we had all sorts of creative courses on various fields that helped me learn all those things that interested me in the first place. I practiced architecture, mostly in residential and hotel design, for a few years after graduation but interior design finally won me completely, so here I am.
What inspires you and fuels your creativity?
I love to be surrounded by inspiring people, people that I admire and look up to. They sort of sparkle this positive competitive feeling in me and make me want to get the better of myself. Creative people can be found all around us these days with the help of the internet.
In regards to obtaining new clients, what is your most successful form of marketing?
Well, I have to say my blog helped me a great deal on this one. My Paradissi is a sort of online portfolio, where I showcase my style and ideas by curating other people’s work or putting up my own. It is a great means to present a future client your style and make them feel involved. The local market here in Crete is not very acquainted with this sort of blogging yet so it is a big pro for me to maintain this international online spot.
What advice do you have for those looking to be their own boss?
First, you have to believe in yourself. Everything starts from there. Then, you have to stay focused, consistent, always inspired and motivated. It is a good thing to be able to organize and plan ahead as things can go wild as time goes by. On top of all these, however, is work, work, work. You might need to spend long hours in front of a screen, when friends are out having fun or even skip vacation, but those sacrifices will grant you a successful and profitable business in the end.
Just for fun…
