June Mood Board

June Mood board - Social Stylate

Hello! Julia Johnson here, Social Stylate’s graphic designer, with some inspiration refreshment! Check out what’s inspiring us this month with our June Mood Board.

This month we’re all about action! Whether that action is taking an exotic vacation, bringing your workout outdoors, or schlepping your folding chair to the beach, we’re getting outside this month! Lauren has beat us to the punch with her gorgeous trip to Italy and London with her family. She visited Praiano, Positano, Pompeii, and Capri, rounded out by a post-royal-wedding London jaunt. She took in the sights of Pompeii, the Tower of London, Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, The London Eye, and London Bridge. Check out her ig for gorgeous pics of her trip (with special guest Hudson!). Lauren’s not the only one hopping the pond; Kelly and Carroll are taking enviable trips of their own. Kelly will be heading to Rome and Sorrento, and Carroll is headed to the French Open.

Summer is just days away, officially kicking off on June 21st. We’re finding any occasion to get outside. Why get active while helping the community? This month Motivate the First State is making it their mission to empower Delawareans to log their healthy activities for a good cause. Users simply log their activities online for “kudos” and that translates to money going back into the community. A win-win, if you ask us!

What advice would you offer to other self-starters and those who hope to start their own business?
1. Have a well thought out idea of the business you want to create and operate.
2. Be laser focused on getting the word out there.
3. Talk about your product with everyone.
4. Be creative in marketing your product
5. Be nice and be ethical.
6. Be genuine. Your enthusiasm will encourage people to try your product.
7. Be patient, Roma was not built in a day.
8. Don’t over spend, keep to a tight budget.

What were your biggest challenges when you started your business?
Being patient, I never realized how long it would take to build a base of great clients to build my portfolio and my brand. Learning to navigate the rough waters was tough but being flexible and able to change course quickly was the biggest lesson I learned in 25 years of being in business.

Do you have an all-time favorite cocktail?
I do have a favorite Italian cocktail, I love a Negroni!

Recipe from Cocktail Italiano.

Classic Negroni {made for 1}

A very strong cocktail this drink is another classic Italian cocktail.  The Negroni has become very popular in America in the last 5 years.

1 ounce Campari

1 ounce Italian vermouth

Shake well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled highball glass and garnish with a twist of orange peel.

May Mood Board - Social Stylate

Hello! Julie here, Social Stylate’s Graphic Designer. Check out what’s inspiring us in May 2018 with this month’s mood board! The theme is: “Summer Is Coming, After All!”

April showers (and flurries) have finally brought us May flowers! We’ve had some beautiful and downright summery days since May started, and that has us ready for one thing: VACATION! Bring on the sandy beaches, the flip flops, and the wide-brim hats! Our very own Lauren Golt will be traveling to Italy and London this month, soaking up sun, local culture (read: amazing food), and rich history. We’re just a tint of green with envy.

No matter where you’re vacationing this summer, now is the time to prep your skin! From your backyard to the beach, protection is a must. Visit Houppette on 5/10 for their Girls’ Day event for expert skincare advice and deals on your favorite products. Not only will you get a great SPF, but your beauty and resortwear game will be on-point.

Staying local this month? Cultivate your inner peace for a good cause with the Mental Health Association (MHA) in Delaware’s “Vetitation” event on Saturday, May 19th. Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month in a guided meditation in Rockford Park in Wilmington, DE. You will also hear from a veteran with PTSD and learn the science behind meditation and how it’s saving lives. Support another great local cause at the Delaware Center for Justice’s annual “Celebrating Justice in Our Communities” event on May 17th at the Delaware Natural History Museum! The DCJ is dedicated to improving justice for everyone in the state. Details for the event can be found on their website.

Whether you’re spending your warm-weather downtime on the front porch or beachside, there’s nothing like slow, sunny summer vibes. Your getaway is just a cold drink with a little umbrella and a lawn chair away. Vacation is a state of mind, and we’re totally there.

20 Weeks: A Different Side of the Motherhood Narrative

20 Weeks movie - Social Stylate

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we’d like to send love to all the moms, moms-to-be, mother-figures, and mothers to children who are no longer with us. Motherhood is a multifaceted experience and is usually portrayed in Hollywood as a fulfilling, joyful, and celebratory occasion. While many times it can be described as all those things, there is much more to the story of pregnancy and parenthood. 20 Weeks brings to light a different side of the motherhood narrative, revealing issues often undiscussed in film or television.

20 Weeks powerfully addresses the emotional ride of a reluctant mother, her and her partner’s journey through pregnancy, her growing love for their child, and the heartbreaking news of a serious health condition discovered at a 20-week check up. This poignant story delves into the most intimate discussions between parents. Writer and director Leena Pendharkar masterfully weaves together love and time in this story of motherhood and pregnancy, partly inspired by the events surrounding her own pregnancy with her second child.

The compassionate, subtle, and skillful acting abilities make this film an engrossing watch for anyone looking for an alternate perspective on the matters surrounding parenthood and children. Exquisitely starring Indie darling Anna Margaret Hollyman as Maya, fan favorite Amir Arison as Ronan, and the multitalented Michelle Krusiec as Dr. Chen, who found out that she was pregnant while filming the movie.

Many women and mothers have dealt with the more unexpected aspects of pregnancy and motherhood, such as infertility, abortion, and postpartum depression. This thought-provoking film shows that women who don’t have the perfect pregnancy are out there; it tells the women who are having trouble conceiving, carrying to term, or coping, that they are not alone.

The strength in this message resonates with women (and men!) around the world.

20 Weeks is showing now in select theaters and On Demand.
