With the heat and humidity of the summer behind us, now is the perfect time to exercise outdoors. For many, setting a fitness goal is the extra bit of motivation necessary to make working out a daily habit. If you have always wanted to try running, we found an incredibly easy, step-by-step format by Olympic athlete (and running coach) Jeff Galloway to get you up and ready for a 5K in only one month! The key is his Run Walk Run method designed to ease the beginner into a safe, conditioning program. Galloway includes rest days and strength training exercises to ensure a comprehensive approach. Each week, the schedule intensifies until you are ready for race day! Find everything you need to get started here.
Now that you are a lean, mean, running machine, you need to put your new skills to the test. Why not find a race that can make a difference? There are hundreds to choose from, but we happen to have a special affinity for the Mental Health Association’s Annual E-Racing the Blues run. Show your support for the thousands of Delaware residents who are struggling with depression and anxiety by participating in this important event. The race takes place on Sunday, October 25th at 8:30am at the Riverfront Wilmington and includes a 5K run, a 10K run, a 5K competitive walk and a 5K recreational walk. Please consider participating and/or donating. Your financial contribution helps fund MHA’s suicide prevention training, education and advocacy throughout the state, as well as, provide support groups for those with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and those who have lost a loved one to suicide. Lately, we’ve seen Kate Hudson out and about promoting her affordable athletic brand, Fabletics. The brand is an extension of JustFab and is supported through memberships, which offers up to 50% off the retail price. Plus, based on your fit and taste, they suggest personalized outfits for you every month. The styles are cool, pretty and unique. The brand even focuses on the ability to wear certain items not only to the gym but also out on the town. For instance, the Mooera Bra featured below on the right, can be worn as a crop top with a flowy high-wasted maxi skirt. The best part is, there is a Fabletics store coming to the Christiana Mall.

What is your summer fitness plan?
Working out and being active are important for, not only your body, but your mental health. We find that breaking a sweat at least once a day, even if it’s only for 15 minutes, makes a huge difference in how we look and, more importantly, how we feel. Sometimes it isn’t easy to make the time, but we find that a cute workout outfit and a little inspiration is all it takes to get us in fitness mode.
