Father’s Day Gift Guide

father's day gift guide

Dads aren’t always the easiest to shop for and, with father’s day right around the corner, we went shopping to help you pick out a few father’s day gifts that every dad is sure to love.

1. For the fashion-forward dad: we stopped by Wilmington Country Store to pick out a pastel plaid Vineyard Vines button-down, a Smathers and Branson needlepoint wallet and coaster set for his desk.

2. For the backyard barbecue grill master, we visited Angerstein’s to pick out a Texas style Traeger wood pellet grill and recipe book to help him master the art of grilling. Then head to Jansen’s Market to pick up some of the finest meats in the area to try out his new grill for a father’s day family cookout.

3. For the dad who enjoys a good burger and beer, but doesn’t want to cook it himself: take him to BBC Tavern for their famous BBC burger, wings and craft beers.

4. For the car enthusiast: we stopped by Union Park BMW to check out the newest BMW i8. Take him out for a test drive in BMW’s revolutionary plug in hybrid sports car that combines the efficiency of an all-electric motor and the power of a TwinPower Turbo engine for an exhilarating driving experience… a man can dream.

5. For every dad: we visited Houppette to pick out some Malin and Goetz products: a smoothing, and non irritating shaving cream, an exfoliating body scrub, and a hydrating mojito-scented soap set. Ladies aren’t the only ones who need to spoil themselves.

Valentine’s Day Three Ways

Whether you enjoy relaxing nights at home or exciting nights out on the town, some of our local favorites have everything you need to make your valentine’s day special. Here are our three favorite date ideas for this year.

Instead of going out to a crowded restaurant, enjoy a cozy night in with a gourmet meal prepared by Janssen’s Market. Add fresh flowers and a box of chocolates to complete your dinner. To take cozy to another level, stop by Houppette to pick out some Eberjey sleepwear and Diptyque candles before putting on a movie and lighting the fireplace.

Head downtown for a romantic dinner and wine at Pochi. Then take a test drive in a Jaguar FTYPE at Union Park… a girl can dream. Don’t forget to stop by Christina’s to pick up a Papyrus card for that special someone.

Grab a cute new yoga outfit at Houppette then take your man to a class at Inner Light Yoga the Friday before valentine’s day. Throw on a cozy poncho from Shop No.109 and head to BBC for wine and dinner.

Lake Tahoe Adventures

What better place to spend the holidays than in a true winter wonderland? Heavenly Valley is a small town nestled in the mountains on the south side of Lake Tahoe. It’s a great family destination with tons of activities for everyone. The center of town is full of shops, restaurants, spas, casinos and a skating rink. Its main attraction is skiing and snow boarding of course but whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or not, seeing the views from the top of Heavenly Mountain are a must. If you don’t like skiing they have a sight seeing lift that will take you up the mountain to see some of its amazing views of the lake. I have only visited Lake Tahoe in the winter but I hear it’s also a great travel destination for the summer too. There are a ton of activities to do on the lake like boating, water sports, kayaking, hiking, and beaches. Here are some of my favorite photos I took during my stay:
